July gave me a great mix of spontaneous creativity and organized sports coverage. While the month started slow, it turned into a meaningful one — filled with new challenges, emotional moments, and preparations for the fall sports season. From experimenting at a local skate park to covering professional and semi-pro basketball games, here are the highlights from my July sports photography sessions.
With a lighter schedule at the start of the month, I decided to head to a local skate park to photograph skateboarders. This was my first time shooting skateboarding, and it pushed me to think outside the box — timing, movement, and style all play a role. It turned out to be a valuable exercise in tracking fast action and experimenting with dynamic compositions.

My son even enjoyed this one!
MLS Game – ORL vs NYCFC
Inter&Co Stadium - Orlando, FL
Next up - an MLS match between Orlando City SC and New York City FC, played in front of a vibrant home crowd. Capturing professional-level soccer is always a thrill — the pace, the intensity, and the electric atmosphere demand full attention and quick reflexes.
Florida Basketball Association (FBA) Weekend
Seminole State College - Sanford, FL
I covered 3 games over two days for the FBA, including teams like the Clermont Crocs and Florida Flight. These semi-pro matchups bring intense competition and raw emotion — but this weekend carried extra significance. Before one of the games, there was a moving remembrance ceremony for a former FBA player who recently passed away.
Shooting during a ceremony like this is always delicate — I focused on capturing the emotion and respect in the room without being intrusive. Also, the presentation took place in front of these large windows in the gym, so the subjects were extremely backlit. So much so, they faces had a red tone to them, like when you put your finger over the top of a lit flashlight. This was definitely something I tackled in post, removing a lot of the red hues from the images. Fortunately, neither teams colors were red! On the court, these games move quick and the players are quite athletic for a semi-professional league. So, it was important to stay locked in to catch the action. I great refresher to gear up for a busy season ahead, after a quite summer.
High School Football Preseason Camps
Schools Covered: St. Cloud, Osceola, Gateway HS
As teams prepare for the 2025 high school football season, I was out on the field for multiple preseason training camps. These sessions gave me a chance to reconnect with local programs and capture the focus and grit that defines Florida high school football.
These preseason moments are just the beginning. I’ll be covering regular-season games starting in August — so stay tuned for weekly updates throughout the fall.
